Feel the true Swedish Christmas spirit by drinking mulled wine and eating the traditional Swedish Christmas smorgasbord. Within this city, which dates back to the 13th century, you can find anything, from the impressive remains of the first settlements in the Old Town to creative modern architecture. The city offers top hotels and world-class dining at several award-winning establishments. Stockholm also offers a wide selection of museums, art and design galleries, restaurants, shops and sightseeing opportunities.
Day 1: Welcome to Sweden
This Christmas weekend starts at Arlanda Airport, where you are met and transferred to your hotel in the heart of Stockholm. If you arrive early, we recommend getting the Stockholm Card, which gives you access to most museums in Stockholm, the Stockholm underground and local buses. While in Sweden, we recommend trying the typical Swedish Christmas smorgasbord—the Julbord. This is the Christmas dinner Swedes enjoy at Christmas time; it includes the traditional Swedish meatballs, a variety of herring, roasted pork and salmon, to mention just a few of the delicacies on offer.
Day 2: Stockholm Sightseeing
In what city can you better get into the Christmas spirit than Stockholm? In December, the cozy atmosphere, with its Christmas lights and the sweet scent of “glögg”, truly does the trick.
In the afternoon we will take you on a sightseeing tour around the city, viewing its most famous attractions. After the tour, you will have time to explore the city on your own. At the Stortorget Square in the Old Town, there is a Christmas market with that typical Swedish feel, where you can find many nice gifts. Another must-do in this part of the city is a visit to the unique Icebar, with sculptures made from ice brought all the way from Lapland.
Day 3: Christmas Market
Enjoy more of Stockholm’s Christmas festivities at the Skansen open-air museum, one of Stockholm’s most visited museums. Located on Djurgården Island, it is just a few minutes’ walk from the major shopping area. Skansen is not only home to over 100 old buildings moved here from all parts of Sweden, but also to a domestic animal zoo, with animals such as reindeer and moose. Hunt for that very special Christmas gift in the small craft shops along the village street. Don’t miss the biggest Christmas market in Sweden, dating back to 1903, where you will find typical Swedish Christmas candy, as well as the traditional hot drink, “glögg”: hot wine flavoured with cloves, cinnamon and sugar.
Day 4: Departure
Passengers departing on the afternoon flight will have time for some last-minute Christmas shopping—a perfect way to end your weekend break in Stockholm. Transfer from Stockholm by Arlanda Express to Arlanda Airport.
