Introduction

On this 10-day escorted group tour, you’ll experience some of Scandinavia’s biggest attractions, along with a comprehensive program of activities. You’ll have a personal local tour leader who will lead you through the magnificent fjords of Norway, the great cities of Oslo, Stockholm and Bergen, the Flåm Railway, Geiranger and many other attractions. This tour is ideal as a private tour for individuals or as a group tour.

Itinerary

Day 1: Meet and Greet in Stockholm

This tour starts at the airport, where you’re met and transferred to Stockholm by your driver. Your tour leader will hold a welcome meeting at after you have settled in at the hotel followed by a 4-hour sightseeing excursion. The exciting guided tour of the city includes the Old Town, the Royal Castle, City Hall, the Vasa Ship Museum and Stockholm’s panoramic viewpoint. In the evening we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner together.

Day 2: Castle and Swedish Craft; Arrival in Oslo
From Stockholm, we’ll drive west to Mariefred and explore the 16th-century Gripsholm Castle, where we’ll enjoy the art collection and its well-preserved interior from different epochs. On our way towards Oslo, we’ll stop at the Klässbols Linen Mill, which is open to visitors; here you’ll find quality linen goods for sale. Products from Klässbols are used by the royal family, Swedish embassies around the world, and the hotels that accommodate the Nobel ceremony visitors. Arrive in Oslo, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3: Scenic Drive through Hallingdal to High Falls and Mountain Views

We’ll start the day by taking a 3 hours guided tour of Oslo with our own private local guide. We will see all its main sights such as the world-famous Viking Ship and the Polar Exploration ship Fram. We will also visit Norwegian Folk Museum and learning about the fascinating Viking culture. We will leave Oslo around noon and start the drive through the Hallingdal Valley on our way to Geilo, a charming mountain village. On this scenic drive, we’ll pass delightful ski centres and travel through beautiful forested dales and plateaus. From Geilo, we’ll drive along the Hardangervidda National Park to the inner parts of the beautiful Hardangerfjord, with its spectacular views, on the way to Osøyro. We’ll pass the first glacier on our tour, Hardanger Jøkulen, and visit the impressive waterfall, Vøringfossen—the highest in Norway, with a cascade of 182 metres. From Vøringfossen, we’ll continue through the dramatic, narrow Måbødalen Valley, along Eidfjord, and end the day in Bergen.

Day 4: City of Wonders

We will start the day with a guided tour of Bergen. Bergen is a wonderful city, full of life and culture. In this must-visit city, you’ll find Bryggen, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site; exceptional old houses; a vibrant fish and flower market; cable cars offering stunning views; great museums; dynamic culture, and more. After lunch, there will be a 1-hour mini-train sightseeing tour around the city centre.

Day 5: Fabulous Flåm
From Bergen, we’ll continue our journey as we head on to the Sognefjorden—Norway’s longest and deepest fjord—passing such highlights as the towns of Stalheim and Voss before reaching our final destination of the day, Flåm. In Flåm we’ll take a trip on the famous Flåm Railway, regarded as one of the highlights of the Norway in a Nutshell® tour. The 20-km-long train journey from Flåm train station to the mountain station of Myrdal and back down to Flåm again, beside the fjord, takes around 55 minutes each way. On the journey, we’ll have views of some of the most magnificent mountain scenery in Norway, with an ever-changing panorama of tall mountains and cascading waterfalls. The train moves slowly or stops at the best views.

Day 6: Grand Glacier and Gorgeous Fjords
From Flåm we’ll head to Sogndal and then drive the Fjærlands Road to see Jostedal Glacier, mainland Europe’s largest icecap, and visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum. Then we’ll continue, via Lake Jølster, to Olden. In Olden, we’ll take the famous Troll Cars on a tour up to Briksdalsbre (glacier). We’ll have to go the last few metres to the glacier by foot. After a fantastic couple of hours at the glacier, we’ll head to Loen, past Stryn and on to Hellesylt, where we’ll take the ferry on the lovely Geiranger Fjord, considered the most beautiful fjord in the world. Here you’ll find magnificent and impressive waterfalls, such as the Seven Sisters and the Bridal Veil. End the day in Geiranger!

Day 7: Røros, a World Heritage Site
From Geiranger, we’ll head to the inlands of Norway and, moving closer to the Swedish border, our final destination is the World Heritage-listed village of Røros. But before reaching Røros, we’ll pass the mountain village of Lom and drive along national park, Jotunheimen, then north through Dovre, ending in Røros. Røros is a beautiful gem with a charming atmosphere, lovely houses and delightful, tiny streets and alleys.

Day 8: Røros (Norway)–Tallberg (Sweden)
Today we’ll drive south along the Swedish border and then cross at Kopparleden and head to the pretty village of Tällberg (in Sweden), beautifully located by Lake Siljan. On our way, we’ll stop at Nusnäs, where we’ll visit the Dala Horse workshop belonging to Nils and Grannas Olsson. Here we’ll find this popular souvenir and symbol of Swedish handicraft tradition.

Day 9: Sweden in a Nutshell and Return to Stockholm

In Mora, we’ll visit the home and museum of the artist Anders Zorn, who became one of Sweden’s most famous painters around 1900. Visit the Rättvik church, whose history dates back 800 years. Make time to see the old church stables that were used as shelter for people and horses—87 of them still exist. In Avesta, we’ll make a short stop for photos at the largest Dala Horse in Sweden, 13 metres high! In the evening there will be a farewell dinner and a formal end to a successful tour.

Day 10: Departure
Taxi transfer from Stockholm to Arlanda Airport for departure. Passengers departing on the afternoon flight will have time for some last-minute shopping, a perfect way to end your holiday.
