Introduction

Interest in ice-fishing has increased in recent years, and on the River Lule, too, we have developed effective and fun techniques for catching salmon and trout with ice-jigs in the winter. Fishing is available just outside Boden, where we offer some of the best fishing waters in Europe for salmon and trout ice-fishing. Good-sized grayling can also be caught on an ice-jig. Nordic Visitor-Sweden offers exciting and relaxing ice-fishing for salmon and trout on these wonderful and scenic fishing waters. Our fishing guides are local and highly experienced in fishing the River Lule, to ensure you have a memorable experience. If the opportunity arises, we’ll prepare the fish you caught, and serve it to you for dinner with boiled potatoes, thin bread sandwiched with onions, the Lapland way a true culinary experience.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival/Flight to Luleå
Arrival at Arlanda International Airport and transfer to your domestic flight north to Luleå, in the Swedish Lapland. Upon arrival in Luleå, you will be met by your professional guide and driver, who is an avid fisherman himself. After quick refreshments and a visit to a professional outfitter store, we drive straight to Boden. You will stay in a nice hotel close to where we will be fishing for the next days.

Day 2: First Day of Fishing for Salmon & Trout

After a good breakfast, we will leave the hotel when day breaks and head for the river. An information session about fishing techniques and the basics of ice safety will follow. Then we’ll make our way to our first fishing spot and begin with a rundown of what areas we can fish. After that, we drill the first hole and start fishing. We’ll eat lunch at a grill located by the river. After lunch, we continue with four hours’ salmon and trout fishing. We’ll move around on snowmobiles between areas and, after fishing, return to the hotel for a good dinner.

 

Day 3: Second Day of Fishing for Salmon & Trout

We will start our day similarly to the day before - with a good, nutritious breakfast. We will then venture out into the beautiful Swedish winter nature, in search of the perfect catch. Lunch by the river and a nice dinner with a glass of good wine at the hotel in the evening.

 

Day 4: Third Day of Fishing and Return to Stockholm
After a good night’s rest, we’ll head to the river for the last day of fishing. In the afternoon, we round up and take you to the airport for your flight back to Stockholm. You will be met by our driver and transferred to your city-centre hotel. In the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a gourmet dinner in one of Stockholm’s renowned restaurants. After that you have the option to check out Stockholm’s vibrant nightlife, with a seemingly endless choice of pubs, bars and discothèques.

 

Day 5: Departure
Transfer from Stockholm by Arlanda Express to Arlanda Airport. Passengers departing on the afternoon flight will have time for some last-minute Stockholm sightseeing and shopping. This is a nice way to end your visit, after an unforgettable ice-fishing trip in Sweden.


Further Details
Ice-fishing for salmon and trout is popular, fun and challenging. You have a good chance of combining salmon and trout fishing on the River Lule. We fish with a Normark Red Pilker ice-fishing rod, ABU multiplier reel, and Berkley line with a troll weighing between 4 and 13 grams, depending on how fast the current is. We drill a hole slanting downstream, then lower the bait, 10 - 15 metres at first. Every fifth minute, we let out a further 2–4 metres, to fish a longer stretch. One of the challenges is to find the fish. We drill our way forwards until we get the first bite, then we know we’ve found the right area. We fish an area for 2–3 hours, then start the snowmobile and find a new fishing spot.
