Introduction

Drive your own team of huskies through the Arctic wilderness of Swedish Lapland! As you make your way from lodge to lodge, discover the hidden gems of a world still largely untouched by man with an experienced native guide who knows Lapland like his own backyard. Along with an overnight stay at the world-famous ICEHOTEL and tantalizing flavors of the local cuisine, this has all the ingredients of a legendary winter adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Snowmobile Safari
Your adventurous holiday begins at Lapland’s Kiruna Airport where your local guide awaits to greet you and escort you to your hotel in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost city located 145 km north of the Arctic Circle. As dusk settles, the guide prepares you for an exciting guided snowmobile trip into the wild to search for Lapland’s amazing northern lights*. After a delicious wilderness dinner, it’s time to head back to your accommodation for the evening, Hotel Kebne (or similar) in central Kiruna.

* Please note that the northern lights (aurora borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Day 2: Journey into the Wild!
Start the morning at your hotel by getting acquainted with the dog sled guide who will lead you through the wilderness over the next three days. The guide will then take you to the kennel in the nearby village of Poikkijärvi for a welcome lunch and briefing on the itinerary and introduction to the basics of dog-sledding. After gearing up for the expedition and preparing our equipment, we get to meet our new canine companions. The Alaskan Huskies, renowned for their friendliness and athleticism, cannot wait to hit the trails with their teammates!

Our excursion kicks off in the afternoon as we mush in a south-easterly direction towards our accommodation for the night, the rustic Jäkkälä Hunting Cabin. After tending to our hard-working dogs, we get to relax in the traditional wood-heated sauna before enjoying dinner together. Later, doze off to the sounds of nature in your comfortable bed and a get good night’s sleep for tomorrow’s adventures!

Day 3: A Step Back in Time
In the morning, both you and your husky companions are served a hearty breakfast in preparation for the next leg of the journey through the breathtaking Arctic scenery. Today's destination is the Sevuvouma Lodge, which has all the comforts of a modern wilderness retreat with an old-fashioned homestead ambiance. Its dramatic setting, at the foot of the magnificent Vittangivaara Mountain, creates a true “last outpost” experience. After dining together, we have some free time to try out the lodge’s soothing sauna before calling it a night.

Day 4: Starry Nights & Northern Lights
Today, we travel along the pristine wilderness trail towards the Fjellborg Wilderness Lodge by the scenic Lake Väkkärä with potential sightings of moose, reindeer, and other wildlife along the way. At the lodge, we'll spend quality time dining together in the large main building before retiring to our private log cabins for the night. If the night sky is clear, the amazing northern lights may appear to provide us with spectacular evening entertainment…so don't forget to bring your camera!

Day 5: Mushing to the Magical ICEHOTEL
As our dog-sledding journey comes to an end, we set out in a westerly direction towards the town of Kiruna. Before saying goodbye to our tour guide and huskies at the kennel, we first make a stop at a scenic location to enjoy one last wilderness lunch together.

In the afternoon, transportation is provided to the nearby village of Jukkasjärvi, where a new adventure begins! An overnight at the world famous ICEHOTEL is a truly unforgettable experience. Every winter, this incredible hotel is rebuilt using snow and ice blocks from the nearby Torne River. You will learn more this hotel’s history and unique concept during an informative tour shortly after your arrival, at which time you will also get handy tips about spending the night in your very own “ice room”. The temperature inside is around -5°C to -8°C—but no worries—the thermal sleeping bag and soft reindeer skins will ensure a warm and comfortable night of sleep.

Day 6: Departure
Wake up to find a delicious cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside and then enjoy a hearty breakfast in the ICEHOTEL’s restaurant before warming up in the sauna. When the time has come to say goodbye to Lapland and your amazing adventures, you will be transferred to Kiruna Airport in time for your departure flight.
