Explore the Swedish capital and the beautiful countryside around it. Stockholm is a historic city with a modern touch. Why not enjoy sightseeing tours, fine dining, boat tours and shopping in Stockholm.
Day 1: Arrival Stockholm
Arrival at Arlanda Airport, meet-and-greet followed by transfer to Stockholm. If you arrive early, we recommend getting the Stockholm Card, which gives you access to most museums in Stockholm, the Stockholm underground and local buses. After checking in at the hotel you will join a 2.5-hour Stockholm Sightseeing Tour, viewing the most significant places in the capital, including the Old Town and Djurgården, the king’s ancient hunting grounds. This combined bus and boat tour really gives you Stockholm in a nutshell. After the introduction, you will have the rest of the evening free to explore the city, it´s restaurants and nightlife.
Day 2: Visit Birka
Travel to the Viking village Birka by boat through the beautiful Lake Mälaren archipelago. Birka is usually referred to as Sweden’s first town as it was founded in around 750 AD. To this day, there are traces of the people who lived here. Visiting Birka is like travelling back in time. The Island of Björkö where Birka is located; is an incredibly beautiful island with plenty of opportunities to take your own walks in the countryside and a landscape rich in cultural history. Go on a guided tour of the ancient remains and visit the local museum.
Day 3: Explore Stockholm and Visit the Icebar
Today you have a whole day to explore the capital city on your own. Why don´t you go shopping or visit some of the many art museums and galleries Stockholm has to offer.
This evening you will experience Stockholm’s coolest bar – ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM. Here in the world’s first permanent ice bar, the temperature is -5°C all year round, and the entire interior including the glasses, is made from 100% pure, clear ice from the Torne River in Swedish Lapland. Rest of the night is free to explore the city’s many cafes, restaurants and nightclubs.
Day 4: Golden Viking Tour
After an early breakfast at the hotel you will embark on a whole day guided Viking tour through beautiful landscapes around Stockholm. We drive north to an area called Vallentuna where an old Viking Bridge named Jarlabankes bro is to be found. In this area there are many rune stones. Next we stop at an old Viking parliament, Arkils Tingplats and visit the 12th century Vallentuna church, surrounded by several rune stones, one is even built into the chur
ch wall. We continue to the Granby ruins where, in a dugout in 1989, traces from ten Viking houses were found. We drive on to Vira Bruk which is an old weapon factory from 1635 A.D., and pass Mora Stenar, the Royal Crowning stones from around 1200 A.D. on our way to the Old Uppsala, probably the most historic place in Sweden because of the old Viking parliament and the Mounds. The last stop is at Sigtuna where the grounds of “Sweden as a nation under God and with only one king” was set. You will get back into town in time for dinner, why not pick one of your many restaurants with terraces for your last evening in Stockholm. * Please note that the Viking Tour is only operated on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. If this doens´t suit your dates the program can be customized or we can offer antoher tour instead.
