  • Day 1: Husky Ride and Tour of the ICEHOTEL

Arrive at Kiruna airport, where you are greeted by a local representative and given additional outerwear and boots for your first real Arctic adventure of the trip. Outside the airport a team of huskies awaits to take you on an exciting ride over the plains and through the woods to the famous ICEHOTEL in nearby Jukkasjärvi. The guide will mush a team of 10-12 dogs and you sit up to 4 people on one big sled. During the tour we will also make a stop to enjoy some light refreshments around the fire. What a way to start your holiday in true Lapland style!

Upon arrival to the ICEHOTEL, enjoy a guided tour of the fascinating ICEHOTEL complex, including the original snow-and-ice structure that is rebuilt each winter and a new permanent structure, the ICEHOTEL 365, which offers a year-round winter experience inside thanks to solar energy. You’ll be able to see an assortment of ice rooms and ice suites as well as the chic ICEBAR, ice church and other creative works of ice and snow.

After the guided tour you are transferred to Hotel Scandic Ferrum in Kiruna, your accommodation for the next three nights, where you are welcomed with sparkling wine and chocolates in your room.

    Optional: Overnight at the ICEHOTEL
An overnight at the ICEHOTEL is like living in a fairytale! Snuggle up with your sweetheart on top of soft reindeer skins on a bed made of snow and ice. Regardless of whether you spend the night in the new or original structure, the temperature inside is kept at around - 5°C (21°F) at all times. But no worries! You will receive a thermal sleeping bag to keep you warm and handy tips from ICEHOTEL staff on how to sleep comfortably in your own ice room or suite, on soft reindeer skins atop a bed made of ice. In the morning, wake up to a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside and enjoy a hearty breakfast in the restaurant followed by a refreshing trip to the sauna.

Please note that the Icehotel is under construction and opens up on December 15th. Until then, the guided tour and accommodation will be at the Icehotel 365, which is also used throughout the season.

  • Day 2: Visit to a Reindeer Farm

The morning is free to roam the village of Kiruna. After lunch you will be picked up and taken on a tour to a Sami reindeer farm for a close encounter with Rudolf and his friends, followed by a traditional snack in a Sami teepee. Try driving a reindeer sled! You will get the opportunity to learn about the daily lives and history of the Sami people, the native people of northern Scandinavia. After the tour, transportation is provided back to the hotel, where you can unwind in the sauna or relax in front of an open fire and gaze out at Mount Kebnekaise.

  • Day 3: Snowmobile Safari and Abisko Sky Station

Today is your chance to explore the magnificent mountains and Arctic forests of Lapland—one of the most beautiful places in Sweden! You are taken by bus to Nikkaluokta, where the tour continues by snowmobile in search of the majestic moose. Two people share one snowmobile and take turns in driving. Along the way, there will be a break to enjoy an authentic Lappish lunch with the tour leader and fellow travellers in a wilderness hut. You will also get to try ice fishing.

In the early evening, you are taken to Abisko Mountain Station for an unforgettable evening of natural beauty and Lappish cuisine. This romantic evening begins with a chair-lift ride up to the Aurora Sky Station, during which you can enjoy the peaceful darkness of the Abisko National Park and an unspoilt view of the stars above. Upon arrival to the restaurant, enjoy a delightful four-course dinner influenced by local ingredients, hopefully accompanied by a sparkling northern lights show.*  After dinner, take part in a guided tour to learn more about the aurora borealis and how to find these dazzling lights. **

Afterwards, you are returned to the hotel in Kiruna to enjoy your final night in Lapland as you wish.

*From January 2018 until further notice, there will be a change to the scheduled northern lights tour at Abisko Sky Station on Day 3 of the itinerary. The chair lift at the station is undergoing repairs, and at this time our local tour operator does not have an estimate of when the chair lift will be operational again or if there will be alternative transportation up the mountain. In place of visiting Abisko Sky Station on Day 3, we can instead offer you a nice evening dinner and visit to the Aurora Lounge at STF Mountain Station in Abisko. Please contact us for details about the revised itinerary and we will be happy to assist you.
** Please note that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and therefore a sighting cannot be guaranteed.

After breakfast at the hotel, transportation is provided to Kiruna Airport in time for your departure flight. We hope you had an unforgettable time in Lapland and hope to see you again!

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

We all had a fantastic time

We arrived home from Lapland last night and I just wanted to let you know that we all had a fantastic time. Lapland Safaris, who took us on the night-time snowmobile safari, dog-sledding adventure and reindeer farm, were excellent, very well organised and friendly. The hotel, Clarion Santa Claus, was very comfortable, terrific breakfast each morning and check-out wasn't until 12 noon on the day we left which was great. All your arrangements and bookings worked very smoothly. Thank you.

Accommodation

Sleep soundly, in the accommodation type of your choice, and wake up ready to enjoy another day of exploration.

Scandic Hotel Ferrum

All of Nordic Visitor’s Lapland travel packages should be considered adventure travel on account of being operated in the Arctic during sometimes extreme weather conditions and with the use of live animals for many excursions. For this reason, those booking a travel package in Lapland (except for those considered family travel packages) should consider themselves at least moderately physically fit and comfortable engaging in activities that are considered adventurous or strenuous.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • There will be snow and ice on the ground, sometimes making it difficult to walk.

  • Some snowmobile safaris may require you to drive in the dark. Those interested in participating in snowmobile safaris should keep this in mind.
  • By law, those interested in driving a snowmobile must be able to present a valid driver’s license.
The safety of our travellers is our top priority at Nordic Visitor. We reserve the right to change or cancel departures if we feel the conditions will jeopardize the safety of our customers.

This is a self-guided tour with scheduled guided excursions and activities. All accommodations and included activities and services (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor in close co-operation with trusted local suppliers. You will not have a dedicated guide for the duration of your time in Lapland, but can expect a different qualified guide for each planned excursion. You are responsible for making your way to the specified meeting point for the start of each excursion. The time between scheduled excursions and activities will be free-time.

After booking with Nordic Visitor

You will also be provided with Nordic Visitor’s 24/7 emergency helpline phone number where you can always reach a Nordic Visitor representative during your time in Lapland.

Please note: It takes time to make all the arrangements for a complete travel package. The travel consultant must book or reserve each included service individually with each supplier and personalize each itinerary accordingly. For this reason, we encourage our clients to book as far in advance as possible to ensure that your preferred travel dates, accommodation class and additional activities are available.
