  • Day 1: Welcome to Lapland

Your winter getaway begins at Kiruna Airport, where you are met and transferred to your cosy hotel. As dusk settles, bundle up for a thrilling guided dog sled tour into the wild to experience Lapland’s magical northern lights*. The guide will mush a team of 10-12 dogs and you sit 4-5 people on one big sled. Later, enjoy a hot coffee and snack around the fire before returning to your hotel.

Spend the next three nights at your hotel in Kiruna.

    * Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sights of them cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 2: Swedish Yuletide with Santa

The theme of this day is Christmas, so the first thing to do is to find a tree to decorate! After a comfortable car ride to the woods, your guide will then take you by snowmobile-sled to find the right evergreen. Later, you’ll get to bake ginger bread cookies and experience more Swedish yuletide traditions. Of course, the highlight today is a visit to Santa at his secret forest cabin, where well-behaved children will receive small gifts and everyone will get to enjoy a traditional Swedish “Julbord”, a hearty buffet with all the typical Christmas delicacies of this region.

  • Day 3: The ICEHOTEL & Reindeer Farm

Today, you will enjoy a guided tour of the fascinating ICEHOTEL complex, including the original snow-and-ice structure that is rebuilt each winter and a new permanent structure, the ICEHOTEL 365, which offers a year-round winter experience inside thanks to solar energy. You’ll be able to see an assortment of ice rooms and ice suites as well as the chic ICEBAR, ice church and other creative works of ice and snow.

Then in the afternoon, you’ll be picked up for a tour at a Sami reindeer farm, where you’ll get to meet Rudolf and enjoy a Lappish snack in a traditional Sami tepee. This is a great opportunity to learn about the culture of the Sami, the native people of northern Scandinavia. Of course, you’ll also get to try driving a reindeer sleigh—like Santa!

Please note that the Icehotel is under construction and opens up on December 15th. Until then, the guided tour and accommodation will be at the Icehotel 365, which is also used throughout the season.

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

We recommend Nordic Visitor

This was a very fun experience. Our family loved it! The authentic dog sleigh ride was tops!

We all had a fantastic time

We arrived home from Lapland last night and I just wanted to let you know that we all had a fantastic time. Lapland Safaris, who took us on the night-time snowmobile safari, dog-sledding adventure and reindeer farm, were excellent, very well organised and friendly. The hotel, Clarion Santa Claus, was very comfortable, terrific breakfast each morning and check-out wasn't until 12 noon on the day we left which was great. All your arrangements and bookings worked very smoothly. Thank you.

Sleep soundly, in the accommodation type of your choice, and wake up ready to enjoy another day of exploration.

Adventure Packages
All of Nordic Visitor’s Lapland travel packages should be considered adventure travel on account of being operated in the Arctic during sometimes extreme weather conditions and with the use of live animals for many excursions. For this reason, those booking a travel package in Lapland (except for those considered family travel packages) should consider themselves at least moderately physically fit and comfortable engaging in activities that are considered adventurous or strenuous.
Some things to keep in mind:
  • There will be snow and ice on the ground, sometimes making it difficult to walk.
  • No luggage handling services will be available. You must be prepared and able to carry your own luggage in snowy conditions.
  • Accommodations will be simple in comparison to what you’d find in major urban centres.
  • WC facilities encountered during excursions may be unheated outhouses without running water.
  • During husky safaris where you share one team of huskies with another person, the person standing to drive the sled will need to kick to assist the dogs and may be required to run when sledding uphill.
  • Reindeer and huskies run very fast. Those interested in participating in either a reindeer or husky safari should keep this in mind.
  • Some snowmobile safaris may require you to drive in the dark. Those interested in participating in snowmobile safaris should keep this in mind.
  • By law, those interested in driving a snowmobile must be able to present a valid driver’s license.
The safety of our travellers is our top priority at Nordic Visitor. We reserve the right to change or cancel departures if we feel the conditions will jeopardize the safety of our customers.
Snowmobile tours
  • The driver of a snowmobile must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
  • Drinking alcohol is not allowed before driving a snowmobile.
  • Children are seated in a sled pulled by the guides snowmobile during snowmobile safaris
Northern Lights
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Evening excursions will operate according to the tour schedule, even in unfavourable viewing conditions, and our guides will do their utmost to determine the best possible location for sightings.
Activities & Guides
This is a self-guided tour with scheduled guided excursions and activities. All accommodations and included activities and services (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor in close co-operation with trusted local suppliers. You will not have a dedicated guide for the duration of your time in Lapland, but can expect a different qualified guide for each planned excursion. You are responsible for making your way to the specified meeting point for the start of each excursion. The time between scheduled excursions and activities will be free-time.
After booking with Nordic Visitor
After booking your package with Nordic Visitor, you will be contacted within two working days by one of our travel consultants, who will serve as your dedicated contact person for all of your travel needs before, during and even after your holiday. Before you travel, Nordic Visitor will provide you with a detailed personal itinerary and vouchers for all services and activities booked for your travel package. You will also be provided with Nordic Visitor’s 24/7 emergency helpline phone number where you can always reach a Nordic Visitor representative during your time in Lapland.
Please note: It takes time to make all the arrangements for a complete travel package. The travel consultant must book or reserve each included service individually with each supplier and personalize each itinerary accordingly. For this reason, we encourage our clients to book as far in advance as possible to ensure that your preferred travel dates, accommodation class and additional activities are available.
