  • Day 1: Huskies and the Icehotel

Arrive at Kiruna airport, where you are met and greeted. After collecting your luggage you will receive warm clothes and boots to protect you from the cold on your first arctic adventure. Just outside the airport your transport awaits, a dogsled team which will take you for an exciting ride through the wide and over the plains towards the Icehotel. The guide will mush a team of 10-12 dogs and you sit up to 4 people on one big sled. During the tour we will also make a stop to enjoy some light refreshments around the fire. What a way to start your holiday in true Lapland style!

On arrival to the ICEHOTEL complex you will be taken on a guided tour to learn the story of its unique concept. The original ICEHOTEL structure is entirely rebuilt each winter with snow and ice blocks from the nearby Torne River, and the new permanent ICEHOTEL 365 structure – equipped with large solar panels for year-round indoor cooling –is furnished with similar snow and ice designs inside.

Regardless of whether you spend the night in the new or original structure, the temperature inside is kept at around - 5°C (21°F) at all times. But no worries! You will receive a thermal sleeping bag to keep you warm and handy tips from ICEHOTEL staff on how to sleep comfortably in your own ice room on soft reindeer skins atop a bed made of ice.

Please note that the Icehotel is under construction and opens up on December 15th. Until then, the guided tour and accommodation will be at the Icehotel 365, which is also used throughout the season.

  • Day 2: Visit to a Reindeer Farm and Northern Lights Snowmobile Tour

In the morning you will wake up to find a cup of hot traditional lingonberry juice served at your bedside. Once properly awake you can enjoy a hearty breakfast in the restaurant and warm up in the Icehotel’s sauna to prepare for today’s adventures. Then you will be picked up and taken on a tour to a Sami reindeer farm for a close encounter with Rudolf and his friends, followed by a traditional snack in a Sami teepee. Try driving a reindeer sled! You will get the opportunity to learn about the daily lives and history of the Sami people, the native people of northern Scandinavia. After the tour the guide will drop you of in Kiruna village.

Later this evening you are taken on a thrilling journey into the wild to explore the amazing Northern Lights* on a guided snowmobile trip. Two people share one snowmobile and take turns in driving. After a delicious dinner in a teepee you head into the night again and return to your warm hotel.

    * Please note that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and therefore a sighting cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 3: Departure

After a breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred to Kiruna Airport in time for your departure flight home.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

We all had a fantastic time

We arrived home from Lapland last night and I just wanted to let you know that we all had a fantastic time. Lapland Safaris, who took us on the night-time snowmobile safari, dog-sledding adventure and reindeer farm, were excellent, very well organised and friendly. The hotel, Clarion Santa Claus, was very comfortable, terrific breakfast each morning and check-out wasn't until 12 noon on the day we left which was great. All your arrangements and bookings worked very smoothly. Thank you.

Adventure Packages
All of Nordic Visitor’s Lapland travel packages should be considered adventure travel on account of being operated in the Arctic during sometimes extreme weather conditions and with the use of live animals for many excursions. For this reason, those booking a travel package in Lapland (except for those considered family travel packages) should consider themselves at least moderately physically fit and comfortable engaging in activities that are considered adventurous or strenuous.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • There will be snow and ice on the ground, sometimes making it difficult to walk.
  • No luggage handling services will be available. You must be prepared and able to carry your own luggage in snowy conditions.
  • Accommodations will be simple in comparison to what you’d find in major urban centres.
  • WC facilities encountered during excursions may be unheated outhouses without running water.
  • Reindeer and huskies run very fast. Those interested in participating in either a reindeer or husky safari should keep this in mind.
  • Some snowmobile safaris may require you to drive in the dark. Those interested in participating in snowmobile safaris should keep this in mind.
  • By law, those interested in driving a snowmobile must be able to present a valid driver’s license.
The safety of our travellers is our top priority at Nordic Visitor. We reserve the right to change or cancel departures if we feel the conditions will jeopardize the safety of our customers.

Snowmobile tours
  • The driver of a snowmobile must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
  • Drinking alcohol is not allowed before driving a snowmobile.
  • Children are seated in a sled pulled by the guides snowmobile during snowmobile safaris

Northern Lights
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Evening excursions will operate according to the tour schedule, even in unfavourable viewing conditions, and our guides will do their utmost to determine the best possible location for sightings.

Activities & Guides
This is a self-guided tour with scheduled guided excursions and activities. All accommodations and included activities and services (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor in close co-operation with trusted local suppliers. You will not have a dedicated guide for the duration of your time in Lapland, but can expect a different qualified guide for each planned excursion. You are responsible for making your way to the specified meeting point for the start of each excursion. The time between scheduled excursions and activities will be free-time.

After booking with Nordic Visitor
After booking your package with Nordic Visitor, you will be contacted within two working days by one of our travel consultants, who will serve as your dedicated contact person for all of your travel needs before, during and even after your holiday. Before you travel, Nordic Visitor will provide you with a detailed personal itinerary and vouchers for all services and activities booked for your travel package. You will also be provided with Nordic Visitor’s 24/7 emergency helpline phone number where you can always reach a Nordic Visitor representative during your time in Lapland.

Please note: It takes time to make all the arrangements for a complete travel package. The travel consultant must book or reserve each included service individually with each supplier and personalize each itinerary accordingly. For this reason, we encourage our clients to book as far in advance as possible to ensure that your preferred travel dates, accommodation class and additional activities are available.
